@proosts Thanks for the reply, that is the aproach im looking to try, as this is how most of my previous projects have been made (see my channel)
Ive started building the cube, using 125x 45mcd 20mA diffused red leds and going to see how it looks.
if it looks dim i'll look into driving the anodes aswell as the cathodes via transistors / FETs to get more drive current, the uC can drive upto 25mA on each output but is limited to 250mA for the combined current which gives 10mA per output.

The spiral's reslly interesting!

In het donker is het effect idd beter (dan vallen de verbindingen tussen de leds en de leds die uit staan minder op).

Whoa :p
Prachtig gedaan !! (is ie in het donker nog mooier ? :p )

hi, im looking at building 1 of these, what mcd rating are your LED's ?
is your pic chip directly driving the leds via a resistor?
cheers

@wellyb00t These are pretty cheap status led with a fairly low mcd. They could be a bit brighter but I would stay away from really high intensity (8,000 mcd). Also diffuse leds give the best results.
All anodes of pilars of leds are directly connected to the µC via a resistor, using a transistor for each layer I can "connect" each layer to the ground individually. The key here is multiplexing. Enabling two layer at the same time would drain to much current from the pins of the µC.

Plz plzz...can you contact me, im doing one but i dont know what to use on the circuit and the program plzz!!

@tigredsita I don't have a schematic, but there are a few out there on the internet. I've used the 16F877A PIC from microchip. Using the free/student version of high-tide IDE & CCS compiler.
All code is my own, it's pretty basic, just store the data in an array. For each frame light the leds for a few milliseconds and go to the next frame.
