@Gregorypeckory I was commenting on the suggestion of coffee fuelled metabolism rather than musical style, per se. M. Ducret certainly appeared a less hyper when I saw him live with Tim Berne recently...
By contrast, Derek Bailey was always 'out there' musically, but as one privileged to have had a pre-gig cup of tea, biscuit and natter with the great man I can attest to his more genteel approach to refreshments producing a performance no less musically challenging than this.
@DannyDesperate Nothing has "happened to jazz". There are still plenty of people for you to listen to, who are stuck in the past, playing musical styles developed in the 40s or 50s. But art grows over time, and some of us like to listen to artists that have their own thoughts and ideas that aren't from Charlie Parker, Frank Sinatra, Dizzy, Duke, Satchmo, etc.
I was sure for a moment Marc was going to play 'Strangers in the Night' at 1:22 onwards - such a laid back melodic tune might have helped his obvious hyper tension. Calm down, man, or you'll do yourself a mischief... What has happened to jazz, it looks like everyone had 10 expressos each before stepping on stage?
