  • Nobody understands this band.

The back vocals are supposed to sound like that. It's called dissonance. It's used in music all the time to create interest.

  • Oh God. I totally agree. People are really showing their ignorance here. The backing vocals are deliberately heavy to give an ethereal, other-worldly chanty sound, enhancing an already amazing track. The heaviness is designed to place a dark frame around the song. These girls are great musicians - they know exactly what they're doing.

  • Well, backing vocals sure are on purpose (like in Moon and Moon) but Caroline Weeks indeed can have difficulty singing right (listen to her own stuff) and some of the girls do have difficulty going low, and Natasha does sounds of out key at times in this videos (like 2:54)

But for Natasha, it happens VERY rarely! I often see her asking for higher mic or higer front speakers on stage! She probably really needs to hear herself clearly-er.

  • awesomeness extreme

  • Okay that is a little to close for comfort for me.

  • This version sounds much more sinister than on the album. Me likey.

  • Sarah.

  • @audiochick They weren't off key at all. If you listen mainstream all the time, the harmony that these girls use may sound strange and weird but that's because the harmony isn't conventional, it's very sofisticated and musically correct (it's marking the change in scale that is reflected in the change of melody) and, in my opinion, gorgeous!!!

  • @vids4doobs There is a huge difference between harmonic dissonance and not being physically able to sing the low notes.

  • Interesting, never really bothered listening to them before thinking they'd be just more lame indie pop. Very nice. The sparse instrumentation reminds me a little bit of Tom Waits in his weirder moments tho BFL are more more melodic and nicer looking.

  • @iamExus no they aren't stupid.
