This a video of a bunch of Idaho Kokanee Salmon on the Boise River trying to swim up stream from Anderson Ranch Reservoir. The Idaho Fish and Game built a makeshift metal barrier to prevent the fish from going upstream to spawn. Their idea was to control the future population of Salmon, which would in turn produce larger fish in the Reservoir. Currently there are so many Kokanee Salmon in the reservoir that they have limited food supplies, thus inhibiting their growth. It was pretty amazing to see all the fish trying to swim up the river! I felt sorry for them, but it is the best for their future offspring to have less competition for food.
