-- FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, the Mayor of Oakland, the California Technology Agency and the California Emerging Technology Fund held a joint forum at the Stride Center in Oakland, CA, on Thursday April 14, from 9:00 a.m. -- 11:30 a.m. to discuss the opportunities and challenges of increasing the relevance of broadband, including through the development and utilization of civic mobile applications (apps) and lessons learned from ongoing projects in California. As part of this event, Chairman Genachowski announced a contest co-sponsored with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation on new and innovative mobile applications design and development. Following the Chairman's keynote address was a panel discussion led by Sunne Wright McPeak, President and CEO of the California Emerging Technology Fund.
