Recorded live at the Old Style Stage at the Summerfest grounds in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 2,1994. They played two sets that day and this is from the late set.The only original members are Steve Walsh and Rich Williams.

This tour was to support the release of the 1994 Box set. The song is from the LEFTOVERTURE album and was written by Kerry Livgren. He explains: "Each one of the three verses is about a different person in my life. The first verse is about a girl I went with for five years and she left me. The second verse is about a friend I've had since childhood - a person who I'd had an uncanny rapport with. We would almost say the same thing at the same time, we thought so much alike. And the third verse is about the girl I met who is now my wife."

Three guesses as to what the next song was and the first two don't count!

Steve Walsh - Vocals, Keyboards
Rich Williams - Guitars
David Ragsdale - Vocals, Violin, Guitars
Billy Greer - Vocals, Bass
Greg Roberts - Vocals, Keyboards
Bryan Holmes - Drums (The Producers)

  • is Rags playing rhythm guitar for this one? bc I don't really hear a violin being played....

  • Probably. I think he plays the lead break on this one before the 3rd verse.

  • was that the time when steve was already on drugs?

  • I think at this point he may have been on his way back from the low point in '91/'92.

  • @tommyelectric2003 I got to see this tour and was completely surprised to see Bryan playing drums. I have been a fan of the Producers since they came out. He was also surprised when I called him out on it. He was not used to people noticing it was him, especially all the way out in Manhattan, Kansas. That being said, he is not the same as Phil on these songs. But, he made it work. His work with the producers is always great.

  • This is a great song. It should've be on of their bigger hits!

  • Walsh is always hitting it hard - huge vocalist AND keyboard wizard AND songwriter - yeah and a crazy mover the 80s - early 90's days!

  • You're welcome! Did you know that another drummer also filled in for Phil while he took some time off? His name was Van Romaine and he was from Steve Morse's band. He played with them for about 3 months.

  • rickyon.....you are so right. I should go get educated and do my proper research first. Thanks for the response. :-)

  • Phil is one of my favorites also but you shouldn't judge this guy from one song! Listen to his work with "The Producers" and some of the other posts while he was with Kansas. He's no Phil Ehart but not many are because of Phil's unique style but to say he pales by comparison is a little harsh!

  • This drummer pales into comparison to Ehart. Makes me appreciate Phil so much more...

  • Haha. He's got some great dance moves!

  • That '93 vid of Closet Chronicles has him doing a very unusual dance while singing up front! It's in my favorites if you scroll down a bit!

  • I think he was, because if you check out videos from 1996, he's no longer doing those crazy dance moves he did during the 1992 concerts! LOL

  • This is a great example of why I think Walsh was clean by now! Just an observation!

  • Walsh sounds great! Sounds MUCH better than the Whiskey videos.

  • Walsh was killing it in '94.....

  • Doing well, all things considered :-) I guess since I've seen close to half a million youtube videos we are bound to cross paths often :-P

  • Great tune~chk The Wall~same album

  • Icarus...? Haha! Yeah! Makes sense to me now. I checked back on the live versions and that first note is higher and more natural sounding than in the studio! Very cool!

  • Hi Henry. How's it going? We always seem to find the same great songs!!!!! This one's a keeper.

  • You're welcome and ding, ding, ding, ding!

  • One of my favorite Kansas songs ;)

  • Wow.....great version of this song!

Walsh sounds great....would love to see them play this again.....always one of my favorites from leftoverture.....is the next song Icarus? Thanks for posting this one....keep em coming!

  • You're welcome and that's not it. Listen carefully to that one note and what instrument it's on. I know you can do this Chaz!
