@BenkaiDebussy Oh thank you!! I think pronunciation comes easier to me than because I have a background in NZ Maori - the 'r' sound is quite similar in both languages! Though any proficiency in Japanese I might have is mostly because of my teacher in high school - she was so great. You're right, teachers make a HUGE difference! I'm so glad you had an amazing teacher also. Do you study on your own now? I've been giving that a go lately!

@CaityJayMusic Your pronunciation is actually way beyond most foreigners, even some who are relatively fluent in terms of grammar/vocabulary. Most never quite get stuff like Japanese "r"'s, the way "n" is its own syllable and doesn't involve the tip of the tongue, etc. I think a lot of it has to do with the teacher. Even though I'm 25 now and only studied one year in college, my high school teacher was amazing (and we went to Atlanta/DC with her for Japan Bowl!). Most just test vocab/writing.
