Painting President Barack H Obama

By the time my Father first saw Barack Obama at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, the Brute that is Parkinson's disease had rendered him a man of few words. He did however turn to me and Mom and remark clear as a bell- "This is the Spirit I speak of- the Jack Kennedy quality". I had learned over time how much pain the loss of Camelot had caused those who knew the hope and dream that the Kennedy family had brought to the White House. During the last year since I began this painting of now President Obama I have been part of a collective swell of pride in the American Democratic process and an awe at feeling a torch of hope being passed to a new generation of American Dreamers. My Dad passed away during this momentous year and without having planned it- this portrait has become a way of keeping my own Father's dream for the family of the human race alive.
