  • i was just wondering what do all the abreviations stand for : AIT, BCT, ect. I thought basic was the nine week course, is basic just considered the first 3 weeks and after that it's considered something else?

  • @briney14 BCT (basic combat training) is a ten week training period that all Army soldiers have to do, and after that, soldiers go through AIT (advanced individual training) and that is based on the soldiers MOS (military occupation specialty). AIT can be anywhere from 3 to 84 weeks long. Hope this helps.

  • @cixelsyD1063 that does help. if you don't mind answering another question: once a soldier goes through BCT they get to come for a little bit right, then after that do they usually go straight to AIT or do they get deployed? i'm just curious cuz my boyfriend joined the army and he is at BCT right now but is coming home in december. he told me after that he is getting sent to afghanistan, i was just wondering if that is normal.

  • @briney14 After BCT, they usually only have a weekend free, and then straight to AIT. After AIT, soldiers usually get about a week or two before they ship to their duty stations. But that is not guaranteed. And depending on his MOS, he might have a stateside duty station, where he will get more training before he gets deployed. I hope this helps...I know it's tough dealing with the military.

  • wanting to know can you take you laptop and have free wifi or how does that work? also cellphones plz reply gonna ship soon...what i mean is can you take your laptop to basic wait till grad and get it back to take it to ait?

  • @MARIE0420 Hi Marie...I would suggest that you don't take a laptop to BCT...but you can take your cell phone. On Sundays, the Drill Intructors usually allow about 2 hours to call home. My son was allowed a laptop in AIT, but he was only allowed to use it on Sundays. But I don't think the Army likes you to have laptops during your training. If you want to find out more, I would suggest asking your recruiter. Good luck soldier...and Godspeed..!!

  • @armygf563 Life in a combat situation is never easy...but so few of us ever stop to think about what they go through on a daily basis. They have hours upon hours of relentless boredom, punctuated by hours upon hours of relentless fighting and terror. And all of that is to defend a way of life for the US and our allies. Godspeed for your BF and his buddies...I will keep them in my prayers..!!
