Motive mystery in BR shootings
Police remained stumped late Friday as to why a woman shot and killed two other female students and then herself at Louisiana Technical College.

"We still are no closer to learning a motive," Sgt. Don Kelly, a Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman, said Friday afternoon. "We've interviewed several witnesses ... and are unable to determine why this happened."

The shootings began around 8:30 a.m. when 23-year-old Latina Williams walked into a second-story classroom on the college's campus at 3250 N. Acadian Thruway East, Kelly said.

Williams spoke with a teacher and left the classroom, only to return moments later through a back door.

Williams then emptied a six-shot .357-caliber revolver into Karsheika Graves, 21, and Taneshia Butler, 26, Kelly said. Williams reloaded the weapon and shot herself in the head.

About 20 people were in the classroom, Kelly said.

The two victims are 21-year-old Karsheika Graves and 26-year-old Taneshia Butler, Sgt. Don Kelly said.

The deceased shooting suspect has been identified as Latina Williams, 23, Kelly said.

No one else was wounded in the shooting.

All three women were Louisiana Technical College students, Kelly said. Police still don't know the motive, he added.

All three were students at the Louisiana Technical College campus, but the motive was not clear, said Sgt. Don Kelly, a spokesman for the Baton Rouge Police Department.

He said the two victims were 21 and 26 years old.

Police were not releasing their names because their families had not been notified.

There were about 20 people in the second-floor classroom when the shooting occurred, Kelly said.

Officers ran into the building within four minutes of the first 911 call, which came at 8:36 a.m., he said.

"There was mass pandemonium, people running," Kelly said. "One officer - the first into the classroom - told me he could still smell gunpowder."

Police blocked off streets around the small campus.

Classes were canceled through Tuesday, and tentatively scheduled to resume Wednesday, said Jim Henderson, vice president of the Louisiana community and Technical College System.

Students had to stay in their classrooms for about two hours before being released for the day, said Louis Davis. He said he was taking a test for an automobile technology class when a teacher "said to stay in the classroom because there's been an incident." Davis said

He said they were allowed to leave after a police officer asked them brief questions.

The students' names and ages were not immediately released, and it was not clear whether the shooter also was a student.

...We are all shocked about what happened. I ask that everyone pray for our students and staff. Sadly, Taneshia Butler, has three children and a husband, so please prayer for them. Pray for Karsheika Graves's family as well. I am horrified and shocked that this happened and just ask for anyone to pray.

PLEASE people do NOT resort to violence for any reason, talk to someone, someone will listen. Violence will not solve or help any problems.

Currie....God help you. I went through Iraq and my platoon got fucked hard and we lost good close friends and brothers and I'm used to this whole thing yet I chose to do what I do to make sure it dorsn't happen on American soil...I wish you the best and I'll tell you what, It just takes time. Keep your head up. Always remember them but hold it in a place in the back of your mind. That's how I've handled my friend's deaths. Dwelling on it just isn't healthy. Take care

I would like to know if this factual information or hear say. No one has actually said definitely why??? So many unanswer question ..for the family to deal with. Time has passed,but my heart still aches and miss Karshieka. I knew her before she was born.

i knew one of the women who got killed, she use to work at a corner store on siegen lane, she had a bit of an attitude, what happened was she and the other girl had been shall i saymaking it rough for the girl who wound up being the shooter, ell the story, is they kept picking on her and she went off she knew that they were always giving her trouble, and basicly you cant fuck with everybody, because she retaliated in the worst way, its a shame, once again you cant fuck with everyone, they snap

My cousin had just quit this school. She saw the news and wanted to know what happned and she didn't learn until later nobody answerewd the phone because the girl she called was the shooter.

omg...listen to what i'm saying. these girls never talked to each other...the two that were killed did, but the shooter kept to herself, ok? nothing was going on. they werent singled out! they were the closest to her. accept that and move on! i did
