My 88 year old father-in-law, Don, taking a test ride on his new bike. It was custom built by UtahTrikes.com. The quad has a raised seat and hand rail for easier entry & exit, a 1000w electric motor to assist climbing hills and 4 wheel disc brakes for stopping.

  • Loads of luggage space as well.

Is the speed limited? 1000w seems an awful lot. You don't want the Don end up looking like the guy in the Halloween vid.

  • @recumbenttrikesnl The speed is only limited through the gearing. It is geared pretty low and Don keeps the NuVinci 360 transmission in its lowest gear ratio which tops out at about 12mph. The 1000 watts is needed to climb a steep hill to get back to his house and he must still pedal pretty hard at full throttle to get up the hill (16-18% grade). I need to lower the gear ratio even more to get the motor speed up.
