I agree. I think it should be made illegal here. I have a cat named Max and yes he drives me crazy sometimes clawing the furniture but I'd rather put up with that than pay someone to cut his fingertips off, which is basically what declawing is. Besides, as the lady said there's always softcaps and double sided tape to deter clawing.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to get declawing banned in Canada, I've got a petition started but cannot post a link in my response. Please drop me a line and I will send you my petition.
Stop this declawing madness!!!!

Even before I knew what declawing actually was I was against it because it just sounded like a cruel thing to do, to deprive a cat of it's claws.
Get some sisal, wood and cardboard scratching items (vertical and horizontal) and put them around the house. Learn how to train kitty to use the scratching items rather than the furniture/carpets. Learn how to trim claws.
If you don't want to deal with the whole cat, don't get a cat.

i once found the most adorable little kitten living under my house and we kept her for a little while she was the nicest thing ever and every time i tried petting her she moved her paws... later we found out she was declawed and not just her front paws but her back ones too and that is just plain crule the poor thing couldnt even scratch herself. i miss her so much but im sure as sweet as she is shes found a nice home. we would have kept her but she didnt like my other cat

I have known plenty of cats and dogs, and they are nice enough, but I just don't want to make the changes to my home that are required if you want to live with an animal.
Don't get your cat declawed. Cats have claws! If you don't want to live with a cat, don't get a cat.

Both my parents and I didn't know that declawing is amputating the cat, we just thought the doctors take the nail off like many people. But we were still totally against it because we still think it's cruel to even take someone's nail off. Besides, cats' activities with their claws (climbing cat post trees, catching things, running etc) are the cutest ever, how could anyone not want those pleasures? scratching post helps a lot, clipping once a week helps too, do those instead.

I SO AGREE WITH YOU NYTTOWLL AND THE SECOND COMMENT TOO. I USED TO BE A SHOW DOG AND CAT GROOMER BUT I STILL KNOW IT'S SOMETHING CAT'S DONT' LIKE (NAIL CLIPPING) BUT I GIVE MY BABY A TREAT BETWEEN EACH COUPLE OF NAILS TO TRY AND RELATE IT TO NOT AS BAD AN ISSUE. SHE DEALS WITH IT OK NOW. I DO IT QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. YOU ONLY DO THE TIP TOO! OTHERWIZE IT CAN INJURE THE VIEN AND HURT AWFUL AND BLEEDING AS WELL. I WOULD NEVER DECLAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want to have a cat but consider your carpets or couch more important than your cat, well YO DON'T DESERVE a cat. Go get an aquarium with goldfish or a teddy bear, but LEAVE THE CATS ALONE!

If you don't want a cat with all the behaviors that are natural for cats, then don't get one. It's really cruel and inhumane to declaw cats, remove dogs' vocal chords, etc. If you're that selfish, then just don't have animals. Sheeesh.
