@ottvalley Too bad you're a Sens fans though. Little to cheer for whenever it came time to play the Leafs.
-
0:43 in the clip Bjorn johansson, :) I got his matchdress in my closet
-
It's obvious that Salming would get that ovation in his home rink. What's amazing to me is that Orr got a standing ovation in Toronto, which was the only place that he got booed regularly.
-
@mjonas10 ISn't it Europeans that hate Canadians. I get nothing but flak here in sweden but when I am home they love the swedes and russians!
-
@65selander Händer ganska ofta, se bara på när Sundin gjorde gjorde sin första match med Vancouver mot Toronto. Även om han hade blivit traded hade lämnat laget för en rival, så fick han en sående ovation. Så ja, det händer ganska frekvent.
-
His the older verson of forsberg!
-
Börje salming han är fan asss bra men typ kanada o sverige är fan bästa lagen!
-
@ottvalley That coming from what looks like a sens fan, a team that has basically nothing to its name you = fail.
-
This is a great moment. But at the time, Salming felt awkward. He was embarrassed. The Maple Leafs were his team and Canada his second home. But right there he was representing Tre Kronor, Team Sweden.
I believe the Canadian players weren’t too happy about it.
-
@mjonas10 not at all! We actually have a deep respect for all European players because 1) It's nice to see the game has made it there and 2) Many of our greatest players in Canadian teams were European, example my favourite player of all time is Mats Sundin ;)
-
RESPECT!
-
Orr was at the end, but what a warrior!!!!
-
Det är inte ofta man behöver sänka ljudet men nu behövdes det!
-
@kkurrukk well at least most people know where canada is. Sweden?? How many people care? Oh yeah and a couple of punks started a riot. the rest of Vancouver showed up to clean it up for free because they care.....I have lived in sweden 13 years...that wouldn't happen here so get your facts straight you little net pirate.
-
@Poontangist I find that hard to believe. I know of no one who gives a flying fuck about Canada either way.
Oh and by the way, I find it a bit funny that you're accusing europeans to be poor losers when you lot cause riots after a bad loss.
-
@Poontangist Kid dont be fucking stupid and type shit that have no grounds. Im Swedish and Swedes in general have a great respect for Canadian Hockey and players. And the few that have an understanding about Canada as a country like it.
If you change Canada to USA you would been more close to the truth.
-
@mjonas10 well considering this game was played in toronto and salming played for toronto, this was expected...in any other canadian city, they wouldnt have cared much for salming..
-
Har någon egentligen fått denna ovation som bortalag eller hemmalag i nutid?
Kommer aldrig att hända, i nutid är allting så genomtänkt. Då spontant!!!
-
i have this on dvd
-
I'm proud to be swede.
-
@ottvalley Sundin was a classy guy and an outstanding center. Too bad he spent his better years with the dysfunctional Leafs
-
I remember this, watching the game as a kid. It was aired in the middle of the night here in Sweden.
The swedish TV-commentators were as surprised as I was when Salming got this standing ovation. I think no one here really understood how popular Salming was in Toronto at the time.
The game, by the way, ended 4-0 to Canada.
-
@mjonas10 Well, its not a rumour that alot of Europeans hate Canada. Fuck I am living in Sweden and all I hear is shit about Canada..... I guess europeans especially swedes are sure fuckin poor losers.
-
I have met Salming for real, he was eating outside dinner at my friends neigbours place : ) ofcourse I had to say hi and he was very friendly :D
-
Wow, Orr, Salming... under the same sun :)

Wow this was a surprise to me, Canadians are rumoured to hate all European hockey-players for some reason, nice to see Börje get the appreciation he deserves.
