Astronomical demonstration of seasonal shifts in the earth's attitude relative to the sun. Time lapse sequence shows the apparent position of the sun, as of 4:00 pm (Standard Time), as it would be seen from Seattle, Washington.

Also shown is the daily sky position of the ecliptic -- the apparent path of the sun, and the plane along which most planetary orbits are aligned.

Position is shown for about 3½ years, on each day beginning at 1 Jan 2007, and continuing through early June 2010.

  • Nice animation. Thanx for showing several years. That must have been a lot of work to screen shot each day and stitch it together.

Also fun to see a planet slip by from time to time :D

    Cheers

  • Thanks!

Actually, it wasn't that much work, since StarryNight allows one to set up a sequence like this and then basically record it as an AVI or some other video format... I recorded this over a year ago so I may have forgotten some details. I know the core sequence took maybe an hour or so to set up and record.
