Welcome to the return of our "Iconic Seventies Cinema" strand on itv gold 2, as we present a rare screening of the glam rock band Slade in "Flame". As one might expect, the band: Dave Hill, Noddy Holder, Jimmy Lea and Don Powell stars in the film, along with Alan Lake (Diana Dors' former husband), along with of all people, Tom Conti. So, "light the rock n' roll spark with a Flame (Barry, Stoker, Paul and Charlie) and their showcase of the rise and demise of rock band Flame, wonderfully set in the hardships of North England's seventies working class society and music scene. This build-up from rags to riches is a parody of realism and grit, with double-dealings and harsh unforgiving dog eat dog mentalities, and the golden rule; if you play with matches then you're going to get burnt, in the flames of the music industry." Perhaps it's not the greatest movie in the world, but it's an excellent depiction of a particular era and the band churn out some cracking songs.

  • A proper band. They write their own stuff, play their own instruments and sing. Lets have this REAL talent back.

  • nice to see it,.......I want a jacket like Alan Lakes................... although fiction, the story of the industry , ripping off and exploiting bands is a fact. Bands / artistes these days don't do ' the slog ' that you used to have to do, to get the experience, knowledge or graft, to know what the industry, used to be and possibly still is! hard graft & sweaty working mens clubs can never be replaced!!!!
