Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I went natural a few months. I love my natural hair and I'm learning a lot about it. I was hesitant to go natural because I thought it would be very difficult to take care of my hair. I've learned how to maintain, manage, and keep my hair healthy. It takes time but I think it's worth. I get frustrated when people don't want to take the time to care for their hair. If your hair is important to you than you should take the time to care for it properly.

I understand what you are saying because growing up in my younger years i was the only girl in my family with long hair and people used to compliment all the time saying your hair is so long or you got pretty indian hair and it made my cousins jealous because people would ignore them but i didnt let it go to my head because we are all the same to God eyes and i would tell my cousins dont worry about it they hair is very pretty everybody is BEAUTIFUL to god's eyes we all are made from the creater

I see it as this...we can't control what other people do with their hair. All we can do is inspire and be an example for those who are willing to make the change. My mom also permed my hair at a young age, and I've had only 2 weaves. No one in my family has natural hair. I'm 19 now, and I'm finally learning what I think is best for me. Maybe those young girls will grow up and realize what's more healthy for them physically and mentally. Now society is a whole diff. subject.

as a person of asian decent i still have the same desire--PIN STRAIGHT HAIR--and im a guy...i have naturally straight hair but at the ends theyre bushy and weird so even though i dont have kinky hair i still want to get a perm and have it all straightened out...i believe its more of the control you have on straight hair vs the chaos of maintaining kinky locks rather than the "beauty" you achieve...because beauty is supposed to be effortless and with straight hair you dont do much to maintain it.

@leelahutt1 It takes a lot of effort and time for black women to style their hair and its not as simple as whipping around a blow dryer or a curling iron. Its a COMMITMENT, so its not just a woman going on a whim, it takes a lot of thought and dedication, and MONEY...

I appreciate your video. And you know what makes me upset is when people would say that I would have good hair. And then I would tell them they had good hair because ALL hair is good hair. But people couldn't take the compliment. That was when my hair was relaxed and when I had long locs. I just recently did the big chop and cut my locs off. And now peeps are acting like they think I have bad short hair now. How bogus... I feel liberated to rock my fro now.

@leelahutt1 it takes longer than a few days to form dreadlocks.

Hey well actually in the 70's everyone sported Afros why not smooth your hair out if they sported Afros then to change your hair is cool

you should have your own show mann ! tell em likee it isss
I am soo glad you showed the mowry twins!! b/c it's interesting that when their show 1st came out their hair was curly silky & long, however i remember ppl thinking they were ugly which was odd b/c light skin & mixed in the 90s automatically meant you were cute. then when they straightened their hair every one was like 'they're sooo cute." even then as a 12 y/o i was saying all they did was straighten their hair. tatyana ali and chili are both mixed. rudy's hair was natural, but it was also long

girl I remember that too all the guys in jr.high were like, their ugly they look like mop tops lol, but once we got to high school and they straightened their hair on the show, girl everyone was jocking the twins, girls included lol.
i agree with you rudy got a pass cus her hair was exceptionally long for a black girl with 4b natural hair.

Well, and thoughtfully said (even though didn't need 13.5 mins). When I was growing up, curly or straight hair was always referred to as "good hair", and mother's bragged about their kids "good hair" as if they had done something special to deserve it. Any child of the family who did not have "good hair" (opp. kinky) was inadvertently made to feel inferior. I wish no young girl ever had to grow up with that feeling of inferiorly imposed at such a young age.

just to let you know that was a back handed ass comment, if you had an issue the with length, then you didn't need to take 13mins out of your life to watch the video.
people kill me with that mess, smh.

But I truly believe that many black women look absolutely stunning when they leave their hair natural. I think the reason why they don't is for two very distinct reasons. A) They are underrepresented in the media, just as you pointed out. B) I think it's also a lack of knowing exactly how to style and care for their hair in a natural state. If you have been having your hair relaxed/permed since childhood, then you haven't been taught how to care for it, or even how to style it.
