Classic Game Room reviews ROAD & TRACK THE NEED FOR SPEED for Panasonic 3DO from Pioneer Productions and Electronic Arts released in 1994. This solid release for the 3DO is easy to find if you can find a working Panasonic 3DO! It's the first game in the popular Need for Speed series from EA, which now consists of about 20 different games on various game consoles. The Need for Speed has 8 vehicles: Lamborghini Diablo, Corvette ZR-1, Porsche 911, Mazda RX-7, Acura NSX, Dodge Viper, Toyota Supra and Ferrari 512TR. Race from behind the car or in a detailed cockpit view, The Need for Speed on 3DO is the smoothest 1994 era driving game you're likely to find on a home game console. This CGR video review of The Need for Speed on Panasonic 3DO has gameplay from The Need for Speed recorded from the 1990's Panasonic 3DO videogame system.

  • WHAT A DRIVE, WHAT A DRIVAAAAAH (insert crazy dialogue here) YOU ARE BOUND FOR GLORY WITH YA FOOT ON THE FLOOR BABY WOOOOO!

  • do you know what's awesome about the need for speed series? They sticked to the cut scenes where they have people talking to YOU as the driver. And they have CG people but they look realistic

  • @VirtualRealityHero and you have never heard of sarcasm ?

  • @64jamesbond the playstation version is better, better handling, more tracks and cars

  • dont you still have that haircut?

  • This is when the series started to go downhill

  • Well those live action cutscenes are what made the 90s great. Take Need For Speed 3 Hot Pursuit for the ps1 for example. The intro vid on that game is so awesome that makes me wonder, how come car games from today dont use these types of cutscenes anymore?

  • @BrazilskiFarmer Need For Speed World has El Camino SS as well.

  • I love how you can kinda see this game's roots in the old Test Drive games... I'm guessing this marked the split between the two. Anyone else notice how stuff in the far distance is really just a huge sprite and then the polys pop up? That probably explains why the system is churning away on the disc the whole time... pretty neat how the 3DO could stream from the CD during gameplay (other systems had to load everything into RAM before you could play).
