Enrico Cocco vs Dustin Akbari at the ADCC North American Trials March 12, 2011 San Diego, CA.
This fight was not without controversy and because of that fact I have left in the original audio.
At one point early in the match, Akbari had Cocco in what appeared to be a pretty deep heel hook. Because of the angle on the heel hook, Cocco's base was a bit compromised, but nevertheless he was defending well.
Then, in an effort to escape, Cocco grabbed Akbari's foot with force and Akbari let go of the position thinking Cocco tapped. However it was clear to almost everyone that was close to the mats that Cocco did not tap and after speaking with a number of people, the ref allowed the match to continue.
Both of these guys are great competitors and this match was super exciting to watch.
NOTE: I did not add the music to this video. The music was being played at the venue.
Unfortunately for Dustin Akbari, he got the raw end of the deal here. Maybe Enrico didn't tap, but Dustin had Enrico DEAD to rights in that heel hook, had the leg through to prevent his escape and his knee was torqued. Akbari, I feel you bro, I learned this the hard way too man, crank it until the ref physically stops you, if you're nice about it and cautious about your opponent's safety, this kind of thing can happen. Take it and break it bro.

It's not that "They only recognized Dustins tap" it's that Dustin tapped and Enrico didn't. Dustin's awesome and this doesn't take away from that, but Enrico didn't tap.

Enrico didn't tap. You can clearly see that he was pushing his leg off.

So, let me get this straight. They only recognized Dustins tap? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
