Hungarian castles, runes from the medieval ages
Magyar várak, romok a középkorból.
Important! i do not own the pictures! I just made the video from images what i found over the internet to present the castles of Hungary!
Fontos! Nem vagyok a képek tulajdonosa, csupán összegyűjtöttem őket egy videóba, hogy itt bemutathassam a magyar várakat!

Short history:

Bánd - Essegvár: builded in the XIII century, destroyed in the XVI century during the fights of the Ottomans.

Boldogkő: Builded after the mongol invasion, by king IV. Béla, blowed up by Leopold I in 1701-1702

Buda: Builded in 1243, in 1541. august 29 Sulejman a sultan occupied it with a trick.
1686. szeptember 2, it is recaptured by allied armies.

Csesznek: builded in 1263, The castle was destroyed because of a thunderbolt caused fire around 1820.

Gyulakeszi - Csobánc: builded in the XIII century. In 1703 the Kurucs succesfully defended the castle with 30 men against 1500, later it was destroyed by the Habsburgs.

Csókakő: Builded after the mongol invasion, abadoned around 1800, and the nature destroyed it.

Miskolc - Diósgyőr: first appear in the writings of Anonymus, according to his description Árpád leader of Magyars donated the land Miskolc and the castle to Böngér(Bors) family. Destroyed by Turks, Habsburgs, and by the population(used the bricks to build their houses)

Döbrönte: builded in the XVI. century, propably destroyed by an ottoman attack, from the xviii century only abadoned runes.

Dunaföldvár: first appear in a diploma in 1199, in 1858 burned out.

Eger: it first appear in 526, but many times destroyed and rebuilded, in 1552, 2100 defender(including civilians), succesfully defended it from 150000-200000 Ottomans, but later in 1596 they occupied it.

Füzér: An 1270 yearly diplomas one relating the castles was here alredy at the time of II.András death (1235).
In 1676 it was destroyed by the Habsburgs

Gyulakeszi - Csobánc: first appear in a diploma in 1272, after 1709 the Habsburgs destroyed it.

Hollókő: Builded by the Kacsics family in the end of XIII century, In 1683 Sobieski János a Polish king freed it from the Turkish occupation. In 1711 destroyed by the Habsburgs.

Kereki - Fehérkő: propably it was builded in the early XIV century, in 1540 destroyed by the retreating Hungarians.

Kisnána: builded during the XI-XII century, in 1596 destroyed by the Turks.

Kőszeg - Jurisics-vár: First appear in 802, but in the XIII century it was destroyed, and rebuilded.

Magyaregregy - Márévár: first appear in a diploma in 1316, probably in the XVI. in a century destroyed by gunpowder explosion.

Nagyvázsony: builded in the XV. century, destroyed by the nature.

Ónod: builded in the XIV century, destroyed by the nature.

Ozora: builded in the early XV. century
Esterházy family in the XVIII. century changed it in a baroque style, In the early XIX century it is a prison after ganary.

Pécsvárad: I. Stephen king founded it and ordained it August on 15, 1015.

Regéc: first appear in 1307, destroyed by Habsburgs in 1686.

Rezi: builded between 1292 and 1307, Never nobody should occupite it, but later it was said to be unuseful, and destroyed in 1589.

Salgótarján - Salgó: Builded in the second half of XIII century, destroyed by the nature.

Sárvár: builded in the XIII century, continued the building operations in a Renaissance style during the XVI-XVII century.

Siklós: first appear in a diploma in 1294.

Simontornya: Builded in the XIII. rebuilded in the XV century

Sirok: First appear in a diploma in 1320. In 1713 destroyed by the Habsburgs.

Doba - Somlóvár: builded in the XIII century, in 1735 there are only runes.

Somoskőújfalu - Somoskő: Builded before 1300, destroyed by the Habsburgs. Today it is in the Slovak-Hungarian border

Sümeg: Builded in 1260-75. The castle was set on fire on the pretext of a field exercise in 1713 and it was made unusable. After tht the nature destroyed it.

Szögliget - Szádvár: first appear in a diploma in 1268. It was destroyed by habsburgs is 1686.

Szigliget: builded in 1260-1262, destroyed by Habsburgs in 1702.

Tátika: builded in 1246-57, destroyed by Habsburgs in 1713.

Várgesztes: builded after the mongol invasion, destroyed by the contiunal fights.

Visegrád: builded around 1247, King Charles I of Hungary made Visegrád, his hometown, the royal seat of Hungary in 1325. Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Hungary, moved the royal seat to Buda between 1405-1408. King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary used Visegrád as a country residence.

Vértessomló - Vitány: builded in the XIII-XIV century, it was blowed up in 1597

  • yes unfortunately most of them are ruins, and i say it is much more than 80% :(, i not presented here all ruin and castle, cause you can see almost nothing about the other castles.

  • The mongols not destroyed castles, at last i don't know any castle what was destroyed by them. But the most of the castles builded after the first mongol invasion. The most of the castles were blowed up by the Habsburgs, many destroyed by the nature, and the population: a good example is Szeged. There was a big castle, the city was destroyed by a flood in 1879, so the bricks of the castle was used to build new houses.

  • @clerh8 Because the Austrians and Turks destroyed 80% of our castles. Hungary was a battlefield since 1300 to 1945.
