As fans we've 2 main rules for a new film in the StarTrek franchise:
1) Must be faithful to Roddenberry's ethos of a positive, evolved future for humanity & 2) it should adhere to canon.
If it strays a bit, I can probably accept it, especially, if it wins a new generation to Roddenberry's vision. So, as long as we avoid a 90210 in Space & the continuity flaws aren't extreme, it could be great. I'll w/hold judgment until then.
