  • That exhaust note, that distinctive whistle, reminds me of Back to the Future 3 so much, lol. One thing though, I noticed the firebox door is different then that in the movie. I know alot of things on the engine were restored to "normal", but did #3 ever had the firebox door in the movie, or was is just a screen prop?

Good question! I'll have to go back and review the footage in BTF III to tell. I know the goal of the restoration was to bring more into the look the engine had in the 1920s

The #3 did have that door in the movie. The camera doesn't stay on it long enough after Lloyd closed it to tell, but it was the same one. The #3 has not had a different firebox door since she burned coal.

  • Nice!

  • @SierraRailway Oh, thats just steam contracting in the cylinders combined with the sound of the piston moving, it's a perfectly normal sound

  • trainboy94

no its not. the generator sounds like a turbine, which it is. I'm talking about a vacuum air sucking sound coming from the cylinders.

  • @SierraRailway Thats dynamo steam generator, which supplie electricity for the headlight and cab light

  • Great video Ken
