I have had several requests asking me to do a video about hammock set-up. I hope this isn't anticlimactic my set-up is brutally simple. I keep it simple so it is easy to teach and I've been doing it this way for a long time so maybe I'm in a rut. I welcome comments to make this process easier and more effective.

There are other knots available and everyone has their own way to do it. I am not a knot geek, and I say that with the highest regards to those who are, but I apologize in advance for misspeaking a few times in the video regarding knot terms.

My set-up is simple but I stay dry and off the ground and that works for me.

  • very good - this guy. if you are reading this - very interesting, thanks!

  • @oliveguss Thanks for your comment.

  • i forgot to ask you, what size tarps do you guys usually use? been looking at some 10X20's and some 8X10's. Wondering what size those black ones are too...

  • @HollowForm222 The black tarps we use here are 3x4 meters. They are cheap so there's no reason to skimp. Four meters gives tree to tree coverage and 1.5 meters of fall on either side, ample living space during rainy season.

  • Been lookin for a video like this. Just got around to checking yours out finally. lol Favorited! Any certain hammocks you recommend to use available here in the states?

  • @HollowForm222 Right after I shot this I was given a Hennessy Expedition Asym and like it very much. Its super comfortable.

  • Liked this vid,explained things clearly.Thank you

  • I just ordered a DD Traveler Hammock and have also consulted with "woooo-buddy" Shugmery and "everyone" is telling me that the way you set up YOUR hammock will cause rain to wick down (both) the hammock and tarp-ridge support lines and drip all on you and fill your hammock with water ... ?! ... I don't get it ! ... YOU are the jungle guy who "lives" in the rain-forest ... certainly you have weathered torrential downpours ... How much of a worry is all this "drip-line and caribiner linkage ?

  • Interesting to see the different methods people use for the same thing.

Funny you mentioned Ray Mears, after seeing his hammock knots video I adopted one. :)

  • I want to take a hammock as an alternative to the tent, something nice to sleep in in nice weather :)

    Thanks for the video.

    Cheers.

  • the knot is called a lorry drivers hitch. nice vid
