0:26 You're checking for tail length and I thought it was funny. Most people wouldn't do that because when you splice the same brands you become comfortable but you're forming the eye from the center so that's when it's a good idea to do it everytime. Check out espn713's videos and check out his tail length where the ends don't go past the throat so they're still inside the eye before he bangs the sleeve in and read my comments if you'd like. He also does it as a vertical splice straight up.

I have been splicing for 30 years and we splice all brands of wire and our slings up to 1-1/2" will be within 1/2" and up to 2-1/2" will be 1" or less most of the time they will be exact with each other.
