The third round of high level U.S.-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue ended on Oct 22nd in Washington DC.
Addressing media and civil society members at the Brookings Institute, Pakistan's foreign minister Mr. Shah Mehmud Qureshi emphasized the importance of combined efforts against terrorism in the region and said, "Let me be clear, we do not seek dependency. We seek economic viability. We need trade, not just aid." While President Obama's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Mr. Holbrooke said, "We don't work with Pakistan because of Afghanistan. We work on Pakistan because of Pakistan itself; because of Pakistan's importance to the world, to stability in South Asia." They both reaffirmed that the dialog represents the shared commitment of the U.S. and Pakistan to transforming the bilateral relationship into a broad partnership capable of addressing challenges as they arise.
