Belconnen Naval Radio Station - western tower

The 600ft western tower was felled at 3.24pm on Wednesday 20 December 2006, at the decommissioned Belconnen Naval Transmitting Station in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. How was it done? Each tower had three sets of three guys going to different heights on the towers. One set of guy wires (three separate guys) was cut by explosive charges, and the weight of the remaining two sets of guys pulled the tower down between them.

zimfromBM, you wouldn't have been able to anyway as it was on government land and it was sealed soon after this event due to contaminated soil. Initially it was slated to be the Belconnen suburb of Lawson, but due to the contamination, the local government is still considering what to do twith the land.

Milty Shatz, It wasn't just a radio tower, they were important naval communication masts for the Royal Australian Navy.

umm how is that sad. Its a frikkin radio tower. They need to be destroyed once in a while or they get into really really bad shape. We had a thousand foot high one here that we felled.
