This is part 1 of a film shot by my dad in 1966-67 when he was in the British Merchant Navy.

This film follows his travels aboard the bulk carrier Oakwood on his final voyage at sea from 1966 to 1967 and features images from South America (Chile), Japan and some rough sea footage from the Atlantic.

I edited this film together and used music from his record and cd collection, some of it music from the 1960's which helps to give it that extra bit of authenticity.

Check out my other videos for parts 2 and 3 of this film.

(my apologies for the poor video quality which is due to You Tubes compression and the slight flicker on the film)

  • I served in the British Merchant Navy between 1979-85 and spent some of the happiest days of my life at sea. The clips you have uploaded have been extremely well put together and the music really compliments the video. They bring back a lot of happy memories.

  • There is something about "home" movies shot on Kodachrome that video tape or digital cannot convey.

For one thing, film will survive much longer.

The subject matter is fascinating. A peak into the MM life of more than forty years ago.

Thanks for preserving the film and presenting it, here.
