  • Tacks are the old-fashioned, traditional way to keep canvas stretched, if that's what you mean by the "right" way, and tacks still work fine, but they also damage the canvas considerably more than staples. Staples do the job best.

    Tacks were once used to hold carpet down on floors, too, but now, as with canvas, there are better ways.

    We all have our opinions and preferences, but the fact is that today, staples are the best and usual way to stretch canvas.

    But have fun with your tacks!

  • There is the correct way to do something and there is the easy way. I would never staple up a canvas. I think it would reflect poorly on the overall workmanship of the piece. Details are important...even the ones no one sees.

  • 3:27 LMAO!!! I never considered stretching canvas so complicated that it needed a 2-hour instructional video. Electric Staplers FTW!!
