Here's a REAL, rare, interesting, example of the sounds that abounded in the U.K. jazz clubs (around London and elsewhere) during the so-called 'New Orleans Revival" that so entranced me in the early 1950's. So it is great, for me,to hear how this band played in the late 1940's. Trail blazers eh?
The track and photographs were sent to me by John Westwood (the drummer in the JRK) when we found similar interesting contacts from 'the good old days' via my postings on YouTube.
A thousand thanks to John (and, I suppose, YouTube!)
Enjoy, and feel free to comment.

  • This is the very first live band I ever heard back in I think 1948. It was a Mack's Rehersal rooms. Went to a Graeme Bell concert but could not get in, so we took a chance and went to this club, and heard this band. John Haim died soon after this. The band alternated with the first Lytellton band. Lytellton had only just formed his first band, and played here before the original London Jazz Club was opened at 100 Oxford Street.
