New computer for my little brother to play his Valve Complete pack

Plays Left 4 dead on 1440x900 Max settings 4x AA 4x AS
CSS and other source engine games are not so playable, but can be lowered settings wise.

i have a gigabyte GA-8I915PL with a p4 3.2ghz ht..do you know if there is a bettrer processor still on the market that i can install without changing my motherboard???

With that chipset, you already have one of the better processors for that board. If you were to upgrade, the price you'd spend is probably the equivalent of just ordering a cheap amd board and a dual core which would outperform that anyways.

Why did you buy a Pentium 4?

It was a pull from an older PC that we owned.

It was one of the higher tier P4's so it was still a decent performer.

everything sounds good just that video chipset sounds iffy, I know for a fact it wont play nicely on high settings, otherwise a 2.2dual and a gig of ram sounds just fine

lol its 2010 and these guys still amaze me. The Intel Pentium 4 ht 640 at 4.0ghz and a gtx 295 was able to max out crysis no lag!!! lol when my friend was building his system he recieved the gtx 295 first in the mail so we decided to try it out with his old pc... hahaha that was amazing we were playing all games maxed out. but the thing is the pentium 4 i was using is the 640 model which has 2mb cache unlike the other p4 hts... which helps a lot, and at 4.0ghz rofl!

you think a 3850, 4gb of ram, and a dual core cpu run on a 430 watt powersupply? i know i can run a 3850 fine but worry about the ram and cpu. im going to just run a ide drive and sata hdd

Is it must to use a Pure 500w or 450w powersupply for Radeon HD 3850 Pcie, i am using a normal 400w came with the case and i powered the card by 2 molex cable....

It was actually DDR 400 but apparently overclockable to DDR 533, and thanks :D

P4 is one of the best cpu of all the time...

he doesnt even know what a molex is, he understands motherboard, cpu, hdd, case, psu dvd burner, graphics card, but he doesn't know what the function of each is or what the things on it are for.

as long as it plays css, tf2, and l4d he's happy.

It plays l4d full high 4xAA 4xAS 1440x900, my brother didn't care about the specs as long as it got the job done, and check out the newer videos, I gave him a liquid cooling system.

Nah dawg, the whole reason skulltrail costs $1500 is that you can put 2 775s together. There are plenty of dual Xeon server mobos out there that are way cheaper.

lol, but i already had the chip from my older brother, the psu from my brother, the graphics card was my old one, the case i got for free with my mouse and keyboard, the ram was out of my old pc, the hard drive was my back up, and the screen was my older brothers lol
