Greetings! Earlier last week, you will recall that I posted a recipe for bean and bacon soup. So many of you asked me how I made the biscuits, how could I refuse you? Here is the recipe for the buttermilk biscuits that I usually make. They are simple and delicious. I suppose you could use shortening in them if you wish, but I never have and don't know how they would turn out. I have, however, made them with the alternative version of buttermilk with splendid results. So as a refresher here is what you do if you don't have buttermilk:

Since this recipe calls for 2 cups of buttermilk I will use the conversion for this recipe:

2 cups of buttermilk would equal: 1 ¾ cups of regular milk (preferably whole or 2%) with ¼ cup of lemon juice or white vinegar. Mix together and allow to sit on the counter for 10 minutes. After that time when you stir the mixture you will see that it has thickened and become like buttermilk. I always have the best luck when I use lemon juice as opposed to the vinegar, but they both work well.

I hope this gets you all up and into the kitchen to make some biscuits for your next meal. I hope you try these and I hope you enjoy them. As always, Happy Eating!

  • My dough is very wet right now, I can't work with it! Help, please?!

  • @linlovesyou1 Just add some more flour until you get the right consistency. Don't sweat it. Add it in 1/4 cup at a time. you'll be fine.

  • This may be a silly question. Whats the difference between baking powder and baking soda. What do they do.

  • @fraser8402 Not a silly question at all! Baking soda is bicarbonate of soda and is a natural substance. It is a leavener, meaning, it will make things rise to a degree. Baking powder is baking soda mixed with cream of tartar. This combination is also a leavener and will make things rise higher. When purchasing baking soda you should always look for one that contains no aluminium. I use Rumford exclusively for this reason. Hope that helps! Noreen

  • As a Georgia girl, I watch a lot of folks make biscuits on TV, and think, "You are REALLY overcomplicating this!!" Biscuits were one of the first things I learned to make- they're just meant to be a really fast, easy bread to go with your dinner! No kneading, no rising- you just throw it all together in a bowl, pat out the dough, cut 'em, and bake 'em- just that simple! BAM! No Cuisinart necessary, y'all!

  • @mommafletch I hope I didn't complicate the process! I also like your idea of using the cake pan. I don't know if I have one big enough to fit this recipe though. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Noreen

  • Best biscuits I've ever made : ) Not complicated at all, very easy, and my kids joined in to help. Thank you.

  • what I think is wonderful about leftover biscuits, cut in half and put in toaster oven. Very crispy and yummy and I can take to work in a paper sack so as to keep the crispiness. cant STAND too soft biscuits. I sent this link to my son Noreen! My other son in California made these with my 13 yr. old grandaughter and they were a hug success since Maeve could watch all the details. WHICH, I mght add, your video not overly complicated as others have implied. ;) Just depends on perspective.

  • Can I use sour cream instead butter milk or the milk with lemon??? :) nice video!!!
