Check Wizard 101, they have a really good and solid turn based gameplay. That way the stats could be more literal and the whole game would be similar to the originals. Even the card selection and other stuff resembles pokémon and attack selection. Anyways, it has been a long time since you posted this, and this MMO is somewhat recent. I hope I helped :D

I liked the challenge of Colosseum because you didn't have to go into areas with no more trainers, just wild pokemon, and train for hours with a pokemon you JUST GOT for a gym. The first game actually had a balance of pokemon you oculd catch making things really unique, and trainers rematched you in some areas like Gold and Silver. Truth be told I think the handhelds are somewhat stale, I use to love pokemon... but it became boring. Colosseum revived some of that... though it does have problems.

well i had a idea some years ago with a sorta of mmo pokemon game in which you catch pokemon or tansfer them (which ever you prefer) then you fully control the pokemon you can block someattacks dodge others and imput certain button combinations in order to do special attacks ( hyper beam, solar beam, fire blast etc) other moves like tackel or bound or ding would be done with one or two button combinations. it was a random idea but it might work if you work on it and tweak it a lot
