Video response to "Soupy Sales—Corrective Surgery". From Columbia Stereo LP "Skitch...Tonight!", CS-9167, as featured on the Soupy Sales show and NBC's "Tonight".
Thanks for this post. I think a lot of us who liked the Skitch tonight album would
really appreciate it if you could post the rest of it on YT. it's always been a favorite of mine. My dad let me watch Johnny when I was very young, and I always liked this tune and others used during breaks. I had the album on vinyl, but lost it along the way. It's nice to know someone else appreciated it as well!
@fromthesidelines Just a small correction. Doc Severinson didn't take over the band until 1968. Milton DeLugg was the Tonight Show band leader for the year between Skitch and Doc.
Thank you for posting this music! I've looked through dozens of MP3 downloads - Stan Kenton, etc. after hearing this on the old Soupy Sales' 60's shows. Unfortunately this version isn't MP3, so I really appreciate access here. I'm sure other Soupy fans will enjoy too!
Skitch was leader of "The NBC Orchestra" on Johnny Carson's "TONIGHT SHOW" from 1962 through '66 (one of his key trumpet players, Carl "Doc" Severinsen, took over the band in 1967). Because Skitch was under contract to CBS' Columbia label, his band had to be identified as "The Tonight Show" orchestra on the cover and label. This was initially released in September 1965, and is typical of what you would have heard in the "TONIGHT SHOW" audience during the commercial breaks {"More To Come"}.
@fromthesidelines - Actually, Doc DID take over bandleading duties in '67. 1968 was when Tommy Newsom became backup bandleader.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that "interim" period with DeLugg, 'bargain'. But I was quite sure Doc was fronting the band by the end of '67...
