Some Russian type jet engine. The animation presents how jet engine look inside and how it works. I made it with Blender 2.44 in 4 days (of course I didn't work all the time :-)). It's difficult to say how long the rendering process took exactly, but I remember that average time per frame with my computer (CPU-Celeron 1.2GHz, RAM-256MB) was 5 minutes, and to render the fragment of the animation including particles I had to use another one.

  • Not bad... The compressor looks quite good, but the turbine is not right. You've made it look like a compressor; the blades are curved the wrong way, and you've put the stators behind the blades... like a compressor.

A turbine has stators in front of the blades.

Small detail... unless you really want to be accurate about how a jet engine looks inside and how it works.

If you made the sound with a blender, you did a great job.

Check out my engine test videos for real sounds.

You forgot to say that fuel instalation was... uhhhh... quite untypical. Yeah I know, I made a big mistake putting rotor blades before stator blades in the turbine, it's a little crappy machine, but I have seen much worse. I admit I should have made some more research before the work even if I didn't consider it as a part of degree dissertation at polytechnic.

As for the whole process, at that time I was like, "Hmmm, can I model a compressor blade with Blender?" I managed to do it quite well and at that moment I decided to build some jet engine from that element, and even an idea of modeling some real engine crossed my mind but soon after I realized that I didn't have any chance to do that because of poor hardware, no references and too low skils.

It would really be nice to be able to model and animate highly datailed jet engine but as you surely know any jet engine is so complicated machine that I would need some really good computer to render it. I hardly rendered this one thanks to a smart trick consisted in deactivating layers which comprised particular elements of the engine invisible to the camera at particular moment, and only one lamp attached to it.

That sound you can hear comes from a vacuum cleaner by Philips. I recorded it with microphone, edited with Audacity a bit and put it toghether with the animation I had made ealier. Luckily I had a vacuum cleaner with smoothly controllable suck power so I could easily imitate the sound of increasing power of the engine. Of course it could be done better but I'm quite proud of how it came out.

  • @Cerebrectomy it's like a sparkplug in car. Fuel is mixed with the flowing air and ignited

  • like dude HOW?????did u do this?

  • Still dont get it.What's the flamethrower things for?

  • This is a fantastic example of a 3D jet engine, I really like what you have done here with such a highly technical piece of kit. The detail of the engine parts is incredible. Have you a tutorial on this, I would very much appreciate if you let me know how to do it.

  • Do cartoons instead of technical stufff! anyway nice work... + sound
