As a Department of Correction employee I am offended. The NC prison system has been effected. I had my pay cut for 2 months I am working in a department with 3 positions are short due to the "freeze" in the state jobs. We have had at least 4 prison closed with people being reassigned or jobs lost. The safety of the state and the correctional staff is jeopardized by overcrowding and understaffing. Please see our side before making unjust comments as I went to your side to see yours.
This was a great speech. I wonder who wrote it for her. What's interesting is the prisons haven't been touched yet. Education was the first to be cut! The educators put her where she is now because of her promises but you can bet we will be the ones to pull her back out. On the other hand, we are going to need to keep funding the prisons and streets because that is where our children's futures lie right now. Education lottery money should be going to EDUCATION not roads!
Gov. Perdue seems to be getting much of the blame with this recession that is affecting all of North Carolina. I feel very strongly that she is committed to public education. I am proud to have supported her and will continue to do so. It takes ALL of us working together for our state to weather this unfortunate time in our state's history. As a state employee working to provide professional development to teachers across our state, I believe that we will move forward with her leadership!
As both a NC democrat and teacher, I found this message as little more than trying to put toothpaste back in a tube. Being a former public educator, Perdue knows her close election victory was much on the backs of teachers, TAs and administrators like me who voted for her. I can admit that we are in a recession, but Perdue was quick to take educational funds to keep everything else balanced. The "Education" Lottery no longer goes to just education, but the general fund. Bev can keep her utube.
The State of NC is "RANKED THE LOWEST PAY IN THE USA" and still and Gov. Perdue can do is take more MONEY away from Teacher(s) THANKS!!!

to teachermom1000: Why doesn't the president send his kids to public school?
We all do what we thinks is best for our own children. Do you know why she made her own personal decision?

If she cared so much about the public education system, her children would have gone to public schools.

Thank you Gov. Perdue for your support of teachers. I don't know of anyone who works harder than a classroom teacher.
