@LandOfAryan The revolution happened because the Shah's white revolution failed to reach all corners and facets of society. Similar to Turkey's Nato position, the Shah's military was entirely dependent on foreign sellers and did not have a proper industrial backing. Nevertheless it did provide thirty years of peace, but with to high of a price. But I have studied Iran's past two hundred year and the Shah's reign. I also believe that if Iran wasnt under sanctions it would have done much better.

@joonijoon Iran would have had one of the strongest army if a revolution never happened, if all most all the Iranian generals weren't executed or left the country, if USA would given Iran the few hundred jets Shah had bought from US. all these countries you named are nothing like Soviet, French, German weaponry.

Iran's population was larger, not including other geographical, demographic, and political advantages it bared. It also had built its military to be the fifth largest standing military on the planet. The war was designed to create a stalemate. Many countries continued to sell crude weaponry such as Syria, Libya, North Korea, U.S, and Israel; though they may have been in short supply or in small increments. Read the book called the longest war by Dillip Hiro.

@joonijoon Iran did but no foreign countries were helping Iraq.. who was Iran suppose to ask? Americans? Russians? French? Europeans? Arabs? who.. when the whole world were on Iraq side..

@persiansownyourface not really, because at that point, saddam hussian was occupying khoramshahr and with a cease fire our land was going to be occupied and owned by iraq, according to international law

Because Iraq still occupied a junk of Iran, and Iran was not going to humble itself and ask for foreign intervention. But Iran should have taken the opportunity.
