In general terms, we can say that a hernia occurs when the layers that make up the abdominal wall weaken. In other words, the fabric of muscle and other tissues which protect the gut, develops a defect, or weakness. Through that defect the peritoneum (PER-IT-TA-NEE-UM) - and perhaps other organs - push their way outward, forming a lump which can be felt - and sometimes seen - protruding from the abdomen.

  • @tubulartimes same had mine 2 days ago same age as you. cheers

  • @tubulartimes affirm just had mine done thanks for the advice.

  • @js7un Learn to heal it yourself; get a good support truss, look up somatic exercises (good for many ailments, there's videos on utube) and take time rebuilding your ab muscles (hernias usually result atrophy or improper breathing) take time every morning working out on your back and perhaps progress to yoga when it gets stronger. I'm having great results.

When you know how to look after your health, there's very little we need from hospitals (or insurance)!

  • I'm in the UK and the op was 'free' under the NHS...

After the op just take care of yourself

and don't be clever trying to do things too early...

it takes time to recover...look after yourself...

  • It's a gradual process getting better and you must take it easy no going back to work after a week or so...I had 3 weeks off work and went back to do light duties and told them it will be 6/7 weeks before I'm fit for my usual work...It's rough the first week after the op painwise but it gets easier...

  • It's something you have to have done...nobody wants an operation and you will worry about the unknown...I had an inguinal hernia op 5 weeks ago and am slowly getting back to normal...I'm 57 yrs old...

  • okay, but what if your a college student working part time, @ 300 a month, w/o health insurance, then what would u advise???

  • why WE men get Hernia??

  • I'll do it! Is it panfull?
