As young, gay, Jewish men living in Nazi Berlin, companions Manfred Lewin and Gad Beck faced much uncertainty. In 1941, Manfred made Gad a small, 17-page booklet, recording moments from their daily life and titled it, "Do you remember, when." In this short video, the Museum's Representative for Europe and curator of the online exhibition based on this artifact, Klaus Mueller, describes the story the book tells and recalls how the Museum came to acquire it.

I saw your documentary Paragraph 175 last night, how strange I would stumble upon this video and see you 11 years later. I knew something was up when there was a picture of Gad Beck, cus I remember that face clearly. He was so energetic, a good man. :)

Another heartbreaking story, as I have heard so many before. And as a Dutch poet wrote:
Kom vanavond met verhalen
hoe de oorlog is verdwenen,
en herhaal ze honderd malen:
alle malen zal ik wenen" And every time I will cry.

Thanks for this video. I'm going to go look at the online exhibition. What an amazing story.
FYI, the link to the exhibition that's shown near the end of the video gets obscured by the Youtube video seek bar when you try to click it.
