A song I wrote last year and put a tune to a few weeks ago. Enjoy!

The tea you were drinking is getting cold
Theres a shirt on the floor that I told you to fold
The radios still on, and its blaring the news
Theres a print on the floor from your new pair of shoes.

Your bed is unmade, the sheets are still warm.
The pillows all ruffled, still fitting your form.
The showers still dripping, the towels still wet
Theres steam on the mirror that hasnt left yet.

The windows still open, you wanted fresh air
Theres your coat on the hook that you forgot to wear
Theres a note on the fridge from a week ago
Its foolish to keep it there, I know.

Theres still a creak in the stair from when you walked away
Still words in my mouth that I wanted to say
Still an echo in the hall from when you said good-bye
You broke my heart without meaning to try.

Theres still a tremor in the earth from when you walked across the floor
Still a rattle in the walls from when you shut the door
Theres still a tear in my eye that I havent wiped away
Theres still a pain in my chest that I have to keep at bay.

I dont know what to feel, I dont know what to know
The anger I first felt melted long ago
The sorrow I once had is slowly dripping away
I know that I can change, just somehow not today.

There are words I left unsaid
A note I havent read
A truth Ive kept inside
A hunger unsatisfied
A step I havent taken
Foundations left unshaken
A bond thats left unbroken
And I poem still unspoken

For the first time Im wearing that old black dress
Theres people talking about you in past tense
When you left you said you loved me I didnt reply
When you left, I left with you, when you died I died.

Theres still air in my lungs and a beat within my heart
Theres still room enough for me to make another start
Theres still a shirt I need to fold, and to a bed I need to make
A mirror I have to scrub, and I bond I need to break
Theres still a window to close, and a door to open
A note to throw away, and a poem to be spoken.

But Ill keep the echo of your last words
And Ill savor the sound of what you last heard
I dont need to tell you that I love you
You already know.
