@Sp3ctr354 yes ft sumter was union property and yes lincoln did send food and some men to the fort, the reason the confederates barraged the fort with artillery cuz jefferson davis was unsure what to do and decided to bring peacful sucession to war. I know the union never wanted to treat them like a nation but if lincoln were to abandon the fort, that would be in act of treating them like one. Lincoln just avoided doing that or starting a war.

@LegoGuy87 That fort was federal property and Lincoln came to the final decision of sending supplies to it as the Confederates didn't think that, but thought he was sending men to aid the fort; therefore, the rebels barraged it with artillery. The Union never saw the rebellious states an independent nation... If they did, then they would have never took action to bring the South back into the Union.
