The Pablo

On a cool September mornin'
on a bus bound for Furry Creek,
I met up with my friend Pablo
; we were both too hungover to speak.

So we took turns at starin' out the window at the sunrise
'Til boredom overtook us, then he started to sound wise.

He said, "Sergio, I've made my life
out sinking everything inside a foot.
Knowin' how the greens would slope,
thanks to the arrows in my yardage book.
So if you don't mind my sayin',
I can guess your handicap is up.
For a sip of your spiked Arnold Palmer
I'll let you know what's up"

So I handed him my tall can
and he drank down my last sip.
Then he stole my Kohiba
and asked to have it lit.
And then the morning got crazy,
and his eyes went all hazy.
Said, "If you're gonna play golf Sergio,
you have to stop being so lazy.


You got to know when to draw'em, know when to fade'em,
Know when to attack the pin and know when to lay up.
You never count your skins when you're standing on the 18th tee. They'll be time enough for braggin' when we hit the Eatery.

Now every golfer knows that the secret to a scratch 'cap
Is knowin' what club to use and knowin' what shot to hit.
'Cause every hole's birdie-able and every hole's triple-able.
And the best that you can hope for,
is not to pull a Dustin Johson."

So when Pablo wouldn't speak,
we had pulled in to Furry Creek,
Then he busted out a beer
and headed to the first tee.
And somewhere on the golf course,
Pablo jared a double-breaker.
And in his final word I heard...
"Sergio, see you and your 14 handicap at the 4th Annual Pablo's Cup..."
