On 26 November afternoon, Kamte phoned Vinita and informed her that a senior officer from SPG, was keen to know why he kept AK-47 in his car, to which Kamte replied, "You don't know when you may need it in Mumbai like city.", it seems he had an insight, she says.
Around 10.15 pm, Kamte phoned his Pune residence and informed his father Col Marutirau Kamte and Vinita about the terror attack in Mumbai. "The next moment he told me that he has been instructed to rush to the location and he was excited about it", recalled Vinita.
Kamte was at his rented apartment in Chembur and had instructed his cook to feed his driver and bodyguard before going on to the mission. He carried his AK-47 and Glog weapon.
At 11.27 pm, their younger son Arjun, watched live terror operation on news channels, asked his mother to phone their dad and remind him to wear a bullet proof vest. Vinita phoned Kamte, only to be told that he was in the midst of the operation. At 1.30 am, a friend called Vinita on watching news reports of Kamte being killed in the encounter.
