He Kexin, 2008 Beijing Olympics Champion of UB.

#1
Commentator: He Kexin's about to be up. She's got a very unique combination, let's pay attention. She's up!
On the higher bar now. Now watch! Li Ya Flip! (from this point on to when Kexin falls, commentators described her moves in Chinese gymnastics' lingo)

Kexin:I wanted to cry right from the moment I fell. I got up and looked at the bars, I just didn't know how it happened. I completed the routine, once I dismounted I couldn't hold it anymore and cried.

#2
It was so very important because it's not individual, it was for my team.

Kexin's error made at the Olympic prelim had everyone sweated for her, because it concerned not only the team's chances, it could also be affected to the Princess of UB, her chance in her UB individual finals.

Kexin was well worth the title given to her, the Princess of UB. 2008 Cottbus World Cup, she won UB gold with a difficulty value of 7.7, she was the 1st athlete in the world to have that difficulty value at an official match.

#3
This gave hope to everyone for the Beijing Olympics because the team had not won UB in any Olympics for 16 years. And Kexin's advantage was her flips.

Kexin: UB needs flexible wrists and shoulders. I had hard wrists and shoulders, every time I turned my shoulder I couldn't hold it right, the move was off; I couldn't twist fast too. My flips are explosive, I tend to propel my body too high.

Kexin's signature moves are: Lin Li Twist

#4
followed with a Li Ya Flip, followed with a Yeager Split Flip. She's especially outstanding with the LiYa Flip, Kexin's the only gymnast to perform it, other than Li Ya herself.

Kexin:I flip higher than her, but for sure hers was more precise. I do the flip with pure power and she did it with coordination and skill.

Before 2008, Kexin was not known, but with her superb UB skill, she showed up at the 2008 Olympics like some secret weapon.
But at her 1st appearance at the Beijing Olympics, this was her expression.

#5
Kexin's error seemed to influence other gymnasts; UB expert, Liukin of the US team, also made a serious error unexpectedly.

Kexin: I was at a urinal test and saw her on tv, she did well at the front part and I thought she would succeed but who'd thought that she'd land on her buns. Our team doctor shook my hand and said, "Kexin, you still got a chance." And I said "Yeah there's hope for me."

Kexin qualified for the UB finals with 15.725 in 6th place, Liukin with15.950 in 5th place.

#6
Kexin: I was really nervous because I was the 1st one up and you usually can't get good score being the 1st one up. And the procedures had it that I had to wait ready standing there, unlike the others who were having some privacy at the back. My teeth were actually clattering. Everyone was cheering for me, as they saw that I failed in prelim.

Kexin did not lower her difficulty value at the finals despite her fall, she went on with her 7.7 value. The Li Ya Flip was performed beautifully, and she performed normally where she failed.
(the crowd roared)

#7
Finally, the judges had given the score of 16.725.

Kexin: Actually, I thought the score was a little low, maybe that routine wasn't that good. Next up was Liukin.

As 2005 UB World Champion, Liukin was the top UB gymnast of US. She also had the 7.7 value to compete against Kexin. Liukin completed her routine beautifully as well. The judges gave her the same high score of 16.725 as Kexin's.

#8
Kexin: she got the same score as I did. I didn't know who will get 1st place because we both wanted it, why else did we fight for it?! We were both so nervous that we stared at the scoring display board.

Both were placed 1st place, and the decision was made according to their average scores, as ruled. Due to Liukin's legs separation in her dismount, Kexin had an advantage of 0.034 and won the championship.

Kexin: As Beijing is my hometown, of course I wanted so much to earn a medal here.

#9
The last time the Chinese Women Team won a gold in UB was in 1992 Barcelona Olympics, it was won by gymnast, Lu Li; finally, after 16 years, the circle was completed by a Beijing girl.
With winding hardships, Kexin is truly the Princess of Uneven Bars.

  • Perhaps, if the U.S would explain why other athletes who about the same height as He Kexin aren't being accused of underage problems, we wouldn't be having this argument.

  • some Americans are so funny. If Chinese don't cry after they fall, they will say that Chinese don't have emotions and they're like machines. However, if Chinese gymnasts show their emotions and cry, they will say something like: " I don't understand why she cried". What do you expect Chinese girls to do to make you happy? This is like damn they do it, damn they don't do it. The naked truth is, some Americans just don't like Chinese gymnasts because their team lost.

  • Stunning gymnast, we love your work He, from France!!!!

  • @lindseylee77 how do you know ?>

  • @database110 Online documents have proven that she was born in 1994. Its about playing by the rules - the rules state you have to be 16 not 14 , this is cheating. The reason why the FIG did not enforce this and hops this will just go away is because they are anti american. Had this been the American team cheating they would demand the medals returned

  • Lol at how Liukin mutters come on before her routine.

  • the australian judge that scored nastia so low no longer had a job after the 2008 olympics.
