Start Up & Rev of a 1987 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL. This Car is as old as Me LOL...

The W126 is probably the Most & last truly reliable Mercedes built. These just little complexity, great handling for their time built and heavy weight. Tough As nails car.

This generation Mercedes is 1 of my favorites. I rode in a 1990 420 SEL throughout most in my childhood. The power figures are not impressive on paper but when driven personally, they really move around quick. 420 is my favorite. The 300 SEL with the Inline 6 is really slow, and the 560 SEL is fast k but Guzzles gas like a Ford Excursion. Which makes 420 the Sweet spot. Biggest downside in these is the Seats. They are hard as a rock and can leave you flat assed on long trips.

  • hey man! nice car! Can you tell me what average gas mileage you get from it?

  • @yak52aholic

LOL actually this car was at auction ( most of the cars on my channel are ).. Tho my parents did have a few of these when I grew up. I recall them averaging around 17 MPG.. On str8 Hwy u may be lucky to reach 20 MPG.. About the same as a chevy Tahoe really :)

  • @Intechdude300 OK cool thankyou. One more question that I have is: Is it carb or injected?

  • @yak52aholic

It's fuel injected, If I'm not mistaking all of the engines in this generation S-Class from 1979-1991 ( W126 ) are all fuel injected but it's a mechanical system.

  • 201 horsepower...

  • my 1989 Mercedes does that idle problem also it's kinda high and it shifts hard when it's that high, the smog shop said it's supposed to idle at 750rpm I think it might be the air compensator module. not sure though.....

  • @Intechdude300 I thought I was but I wasn't too sure. Think I'll stick to my rover p6 for the mean time. :)
