Do you mean you've never seen it live AT ALL?
I, personally, much prefer the Nijinsky version. That would be very close to how you imagined it.

Im studying her work and she does it because she beleives that you should focus on the movment rather then the costume ! The scary thing behind this piece is that all the female dancers need to know the piece but non of them know whos going to be picked on the night, The males picks at random, so they have the fear of doing a great but terrifieing 10minute solo piece and dieing at the end ! The natural effect hightens the piece not takes anything away !

That was intense.  Loved every minute of it and inspired me to choreograph.
