Mark Adams, Vice-President GM Europe Design, talks through the design features of the all new 2010 Vauxhall Astra.

The new Astra begins the next stage of the Vauxhall design journey, as we merge sculptural artistry with technical precision.

The car has a sleek profile; very coupe-like in form. It is laced with unique design features that come direct from our Vauxhall heritage, yet interpreted in a new modern way. A design that enhances the car's low, wide, and sporty stance.

We've worked really hard on this car. The new Astra is the product of over 600 hours in wind tunnel testing, leading to great fuel consumption levels. With beautifully flowing sculptural shapes and crisp lines of precision, the design of the vehicle has the most efficient aerodynamic package possible. It gives the car a sense of harmony throughout.

The face of the new Astra projects a new confidence of the brand going forward. A sporty and agile profile, with just a touch of attitude.

We have also worked very closely with our engineering partners so that the Astra has been optimised for crash performance and pedestrian protection.

@bennicool888 I know that the Insignia won 2009 European Car of the Year and a bunch of other awards. Opel has had several good cars like the Kadett and Vectra. Yet the current Astra and Meriva as well as the Insignia are better.
