John Illsley has been the bass player of the legendary Dire Straits. Now he has turned to play the guitar. On May 14, 2010 he played at the Stage Club in Hamburg to promote his new solo album "Street Of Heaven". He has been supported by former Dire Straits member Chris White who is a phantastic saxophone player and by Polly Wood on 2nd guitar.

  • Im not being nasty but i have heard better covers from pub bands.

  • The worst cover of "Sultans of Swing" I've ever heard !

  • Not a bad try by John Illsley. I give him grade A for the effort, but as far as sounding authentic it was lacking. Some of the Dire Strait tribute bands imitate Mark more accurately and sound more like Dire Straits. One more thing - Illsley's style of singing does not match this song. Nevertheless it was not a bad performance. The reason I may be a bit harsh in my criticism is because I have heard Mark play this so many times and somehow this one did not reach my expectations.

  • Come on Mark...where are you? at the pheonix club with Hal lindes :-) One last gig for us please at Wembley stadium!!!!!

  • incredible!

  • Yeah i think john isley misses the big sold out gigs with mark and the lads too. Come on mark do it for the fans theres enough of us .

  • You know what.... He sings very well but this time he did it way too emotional ... this song has a completely different message.... I prefer him as a bassist. Don't you think same?

  • @vintagezigg You're the main man Zigg... I'm proud to be the wingman! Great stuff!
