@wolvie14 you are right. He did a great finale of Mahler 9 like Leonard Bernstein did. At YT "Yannick with Rotterdam Philharmonic, Mahler 9, last bars, moving end" :)
Be glad to hear a great Eine Alpensinfonie. At most perfomances both conductor and orchestra don't have feeling for this rich bundle of real experienced deep emotions captured at and told by this magnificent music

Judging a conductor from one performance is unwarranted. Last Sunday, in Mobtreal, he directed a rendition of Strauss Alpine Symphony that was the best i ever heard.

do you know at end all 4 main themes from all 4 movements are played? If not no wonder. How should you hear them. At here you hear main brass theme smuged with some noises around. Please watch & listen Celibidache Bruckner 8 Munich Finale at YT :)

@mtlhoma I haven't found one that is perfect, because of course there is none, but I think Karajan and the Wiener Philharmonic do a good job (as cliche as that may sound).

@cesar314 looking forward to listen to a version you like.

un grand Monsieur, une concentration et surtout un dévouement à la musique énorme

I think he is overrated. This piece sounds too one-dimensional, compressing all the texture into background sounds. I'm sad Philadelphia could not do better.
completely overrated conductor

I worked with him tonight for a performance of the Brahms Requiem in Philadelphia. I don't understand posts saying he is overrated. He was absolutely wonderful and quite brilliant.
