@jwhair1 The outfit I drive for has an 2010 Pete with a Paccar mill in it. We've only put about 15 000 km on it, but it seems like a pretty solid motor. It definatly has some kinks that have to be worked out, but so far so good.
In australia, CAT motors have shut down they dont make truck motors only excavators and boats and shit, But we still have Cummins Detroit and signature and that there still good motors i think its the Signature series 60 puts out atleast 625HP if you put a chip in the computer i think they said it can put atleast 100HP extra
You're right, but horsepower does take torque into account. The equation is HP= Torque x RPM / 5252. The main thing that prevents diesel engines from having a higher HP rating is the relatively slow speed they spin at.
from what i've heard, since CAT is no longer gonna make on highway motors, PACCAR is gonna start making motors for its class 8 trucks, & rumor has it one of them is gonna be packing @ least 620HP

20 years ago I saw a full-sized working logging truck make pass after pass in the 14's in the quarter mile.
