@jeblmc The red bag is called a drop bag. It contains rope, which is different lengths based on department. It is used for many different things where applicable. It can be used to self rescue, raising and lowering tools, etc. I have seen it used on a fire to move a supply line over a deep drainage ditch to make access to a hydrant.
