A special extra to the film "Big Bucks, Big Pharma," this compilation shows how drug companies thwart attempts to rein in skyrocketing prescription drug costs through false claims that regulation will hinder the research and development of essential new drugs. These PR campaigns by the pharmaceutical industry aim to frighten the public, and divert us from realizing that high drug prices are more about feeding multi-billion dollar industry profits, and supporting massive advertising and lobbying efforts, than they are about securing the invention of effective new drugs.

  • Pfizer and other major drug manufacturers they spend more on marketing than into R&D. Big pharm would rather produce a drug that you take every day rather than produce a vaccine that would prevent or cure the disease. It's all about the money.

  • @sugarjkane Pharmaceutical drugs don't cure asthma, but there are plenty of self-help books that can teach you how to cure yourself of the disease. "Never be Sick Again" by Raymond Francis is one of these books. The main contributor to asthma is anything derived from cow's milk. I have a friend who cut dairy from her diet and in the process cut asthma from her life.

  • @Mystapitt What would happen to the medical and pharmaceutical complex if people learned prevention and self-help methods to address dis-ease?

  • @sugarjkane Seek chiropractic care of your spine as a means to both clear obstructions inhibiting your nervous system and to stimulate it. Chiropractic also analyzes and counsels on the origins and self address of asthma.

  • @Moatmopper You hit the nail on the head. I teach people prevention and the real way to re-gain health.

  • GSK makes me sick! I can barely pay my rent! My medicine is for asthma, my father died from asthma. I have insurance and my medicine still costs over $200.00 a month! Since when do we see medicine commercials? I guess you can afford it because you are robbing US tax paying sick citizens. Price gouging Americans, wake up America! Help me fight these Bastards!

  • Truth is we don't need any of these drugs. If we led responsible lives that emphasized a healthy life style, we wouldn't dream of putting these toxic substances in our bodies. Those who look for the magic pill have to pay for it.

  • Furthermore, we should have never monetized our species' well being, or the well being of any other species for that matter. (If you've never actually researched anything into animal testing beyond hearing a new drug stopped cancer cells in mice during the 10'oclock news, I suggest looking into it. It is TRULY shocking. Some of the most fucked up shit I've ever seen.)

  • ...and to think there was a time when medicine was just to heal the sick.

The only way to keep creating profit for them now is to create new "disease." - Which is why you need marketing (perceived value/perceived disease)

  • One of the most vibrant and important American Industries. People just don't like the idea of having to pay for medicine. They would rather spend it on eating out or having a GPS in their car.
